Effective Dental Cleaning Solutions

If your teeth need to be cleaned, rely on the friendly and experienced dental hygienists at James M. Lapierre, D.D.S., Inc. Our teeth cleaning services will help get rid of plaque, stain, and tartar buildup from your teeth.

Dr. Lapierre may prescribe a fluoride treatment depending on the age of the patient. Fluoride helps to strengthen the chewing surface. In some cases application of sealant is helpful, mainly for children but some adults may benefit too.

Our dentists may also apply whitening agents to help get rid of discolored teeth. If you’re using our in-office whitening system, we may apply it during your cleaning exam. Since lifestyle factors greatly influence your oral health, we will also review proper at-home dental care.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that adults undergo professional teeth cleaning at least every six months. Regular dental cleanings will extend the life of your natural teeth and potentially help you avoid costly restorative dental work.

Most insurance plans cover two cleanings and exam appointments per year. Call us today to schedule an appointment.

Dental Examinations for Healthy Teeth

Count on our team of experienced dentists for dental examinations and screenings for oral cancer. We’ll review your charts and discuss your medical history, noting any changes or updates.

Our highly-skilled dentists will conduct a periodontal exam to look for signs of redness, inflammation, or anything that may indicate any disease or need for specialized treatment.

A restoration exam will ensure no adjustments or replacement are needed to past work. We’ll take an intra-oral tour of your mouth, including photos, to look for changes, decays, and other problems.

X-rays will be done if needed to find teeth decays which is not visible to the eyes. We recommend x-rays once a year for people with previous decay or who are at an increased risk of cavities. An orthodontic evaluation may be done to see if your bone structure can benefit from correction.

Get Rid of Cavities With Our Help

Let Dr. Lapierre keep your smile attractive and healthy with restorative treatments. Cavities can affect people of all age groups. In a healthy mouth, the enamel, or hard outer layer of the teeth protects the softer tissues inside.

Eating or drinking acidic foods can attack the enamel forming a sticky layer loaded with bacteria known as plaque which eats away the enamel and creates an opening. This hole and its resulting decay is a cavity.

Old fillings can also leave adults vulnerable to tooth decay because they can wear out, crack, loosen, and leave small openings in the teeth. Bacteria slips into these spaces and this lead to tooth decay or even tooth loss.

Symptoms of tooth decay includes toothache, tooth sensitivity, grey, brown or black spots on your teeth, bad breath, or unpleasant taste in your mouth.

You can prevent your teeth from decaying by brushing your teeth two times a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Floss daily to remove debris that can cause decay. Use dental floss or a water floss.

Maintain a regular schedule of cleanings and exams with Dr. Lapierre. Ask if fluoride treatments and dental sealants are of benefit to you. Cut down on sugary and acidic foods and beverages.

Tooth Decay Treatment

Get immediate treatment before it causes serious infections or damages the dental enamel or your chewing surface.

There are varied ways to treat cavities and tooth decay depending on the cause and the extent of deterioration.

Dr. Lapierre will discuss a treatment plan with you to fix the decay and protect your tooth from further decline. Call us today for a dental check-up to ensure that a tooth decay is not on the way!

Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) Treatment

Get relieved from the adverse effects of teeth grinding by trusting our professionals. Patients may grind, gnash or clench their teeth while asleep making them unaware of the habit.

They often wake up with a sore jaw, headache, or even with broken or fractured teeth. Some people even unconsciously grind their teeth while awake. Dr. Walters can help if you have any of symptoms of teeth grinding.

Both adults and children are affected by teeth grinding and need dental attention. If left unchecked, teeth can be greatly affected and may loosen or even fall out.

Mouth guards, worn nightly, will help guard against the effects of teeth grinding. Relaxation techniques such as exercise, yoga, and meditation may also help.

In children, causes of bruxism most commonly includes oral irritation, allergies, and teeth that need realigning. A checkup by Dr. Lapierre can usually result in corrective measures. If you show any signs of bruxism, contact us!

Dental X-Rays for Early Diagnosis

Dental radiography makes your tooth and under the gums much more visible to the dentist.

A visual examination of the teeth is something that dentists do but it is the X-rays that give the best indication of healthy or diseased teeth.

Today, radiography is much more sensitive and advanced than it was several years ago. This improvement in imaging helps to diagnose teeth problems much earlier.

Since X-rays do produce a small amount of radiation, the patient should inform the dentist if she is pregnant or if there is a history of thyroid disease. Special lead collars or lead aprons can be used to protect the thyroid and the unborn child during the X-rays. Call Dr. Lapierre today to schedule an appointment.
